NALP Feedback

NALP is better than ever in 2002 with the re-write of course material including important additions on effective utilization of e-mail and the Internet by today's leasing professional. Presentation innovations by Carol Levey include assignments to shop competitive apartment communities in preparation for a class presentation by each attendee. Current material combined with real-world experience and interaction with your peers all orchestrated by a master teacher can make a unique event for the brand new as well as the veteran leasing specialist. Here are the comments of two recent attendees.
"Hi Carol! Your NALP class was fantastic and I wanted to give a big thanks for making getting up in front of a class feel so comfortable! What I learned in class is valuable knowledge to my onsite needs and now they cannot keep up with my make-readys! I am new to the industry and I highly suggest anyone old or new take the NALP course"

"Hello there!!! Okay, so I think I have blisters from being the "leasing queen" of the office since I took the NALP with you guys! I am in a leasing mode! Before I attended that class that week, I was feeling burnt out on leasing (as most of us in the industry feel occasionally) but, ever since I learned all those cool closing and leasing techniques - I am in gear to use them! I have been using the 'important items list' on business cards when prospects say they are still looking (although I don't let anyone leave!) And I have mentioned to Lori about the "moveable furniture items" on the website floorplans and she said ZOM is already making that a project that is to be implemented in the very near future! So, I just wanted to thank you guys quickly for the great class and I hope the next time you are in town, you will let us all know!"

Technology Skills for Property Management

NOW AVAILABLE. I.T. Partners has been developing workshop material designed to meet the growing demand for technology training within the multihousing industry. We wanted to deliver tailored workshops that teach on-site and other industry employees how-to fully utilize computer, e-mail and Internet skills in their daily assignments. This kind of material has been in high demand by property management employees across the U.S. that we have surveyed while delivering other interactive training. Uniformly, technology skill training is viewed as an important employee benefit and key to advancement opportunities.

During the first quarter of 2001, Neil Fjellestad field-tested several approaches to instructor-led courses using this material. Local associations are finding these courses to be an excellent resource especially as continuing education for CAM, NALP and CAMT designees. Relying upon the enthusiastic response along with valuable feedback from attendees, we refined the content and delivery for several important half-day workshops. These workshops laid the foundation for additional coursework that will be designed in the near future along with some distance learning alternatives. Click here for descriptions of Computing Fundamentals and Property Management on the Net. Generally, E-mail Essentials will be included with one of the other workshops, but can be given separately.

Education Makes A Difference

Upon conclusion of a three day NALP course in Orlando, the students were asked to share what they would change as a result of their attendance. Click here to read comments from students willing to be identified.

Students Evaluate N.A.L.P. and Carol Levey

When adult students are treated like education customers - attitudes are refreshed, issues are resolved, new ideas are accepted and performance is improved. Here are comments and reactions from recent NALP students after spending three days with Carol Levey. Carol is a co-author of the course material and spends more time inside the NALP classroom than any other instructor in the industry. Click here to read the student comments.

What do New Jersey and Florida have in common?

Both the New Jersey Apartment Association and the Apartment Association of Greater Orlando have specific goals to increase the professionalism of their members. They believe education is key to achieving that goal and the NALP designation is an important milestone in the education of every on-site employee. Both of these associations have successfully promoted among their company members to send people to this course. For Rent Publications have provided needed financial support to make these oferrings possible. The local associations have worked with NAA staff to make sure that the details are kept on track. They have followed up with individual designation candidates in private to encourage them. In addition, they have publicly recognized these individuals for their accomplishment and utilized their positive impressions to recruit their peers.

Their approach is creating tangible results. New Jersey earlier this year combined with Philadelphia and Delaware to bring NALP into the area for the first time. Just recently NJAA held two additional courses back-to-back; North New Jersey followed by South New Jersey. Orlando that has successfully filled one NALP class each year for the last 5 years has now recently committed to two full classes per year. Click here for more info and photos.

Win-Win in Philadelphia

The Klein Company effectively utilized the CAMT Fair Housing module presented by the Apartment Association of Greater Philadelphia as a company workshop. Carol and Neil team-teach Fairhousing to service technicians, leasing and management personnel across the country. They introduce real-life examples and facilitate good interaction with on-site employees. Their style encourages attendees to ask questions and retain this important information. In Philadelphia they conducted one session in the morning and another to a different group in the afternoon. Surveying both groups we were surprised to find that only 3 attendees had previously received any formal Fairhousing training.

The next day Carol and Neil conducted similiar training for the staff at nearby Cedarbrook - a landmark apartment community located in northeast Philadelphia. This community of over 900 apartment homes is operated by Roseland Management that employs I.T. Partners extensively throughout the northeast.

NALP in Orlando

Carol visits Orlando every year to give three consecutive days of NALP training to industry professionals hosted by the Apartment Association of Greater Orlando. Students, association staff and Carol all agreed it was one of the most enjoyable classes that any of them had ever experienced as well as one of the largest.

Plans are in place for another Orlando visit this fall. Click here to see classroom interaction and testimonials from the students.

CAMT in Philadelphia

Carol and Neil team-taught CAMT for the Apartment Association of Greater Philadelphia under the executive leadership of Pam Bennett. A room full of service technicians and their supervisors spent a full day learning and sharing information on the customer service sections of the CAMT curriculum.

Fair Housing Team-Taught in Orlando

Carol joins Nan Cavarretta to team-teach Fair Housing to a group of NALP students in Orlando. Attendees enjoy and benefit immensely from the collaboration. The teaching style of both these experienced instructors encourages maximum attendee interaction and retention.

NALP in the Northeast

Carol Levey kicked off a cooperative effort between the apartment associations in New Jersey, Philadelphia and Delaware to bring the NALP coursework to leasing specialists in these three areas of the country. She is working closely with local instructors to ensure the NALP course is consistently available. Carol is a co-author of this national course and one of the original promoters of the NALP designation.
